FDA approved first pills TRUVADA for HIV

Monday, 16 July 2012 - 0 Comments

The food and drug administration approved the first drug shown to reduce the risk factors of HIV infection.

The agency approved Gilead sciences pills TRUVADA as a preventive measure for people who are at high risk of acquiring HIV through sexual activity, such as those who have HIV-infected partners.

Working:
Truvada is a type of medicine called an HIV 1(human immunodeficiency virus) nucleoside analog reverse transcriptase inhibitor and combines EMTRIVA® (emtricitabine) and VIREAD® (tenofovir disoproxil fumarate [DF]) in one pill. TRUVADA is always used with other anti-HIV-1 medicines to treat adults with HIV-1 infection. It`s just stop the HIV- DNA transcription & prevent the HIV replication in body.

Clinical efficacy:
As per the news report, we are known that in the last three year a daily doses of truvada cut the risk of infection in healthy gay and bisexual men by 42%, when accompanied by condoms and counseling. In last year an another study found that Truvada reduced infection by 75 percent in heterosexual couples in which one partner was infected with HIV and the other was not.

Dose: You should be used Truvada , two times in a day after or before taken meal

Precaution:
Contact your healthcare provider right away if you face any of the following side effects or conditions while taking TRUVADA:
Nausea, vomiting, unusual muscle pain, and weakness. These may be signs of a buildup of acid in the blood (lactic acidosis), which is a serious medical condition.
Light colored stools, dark colored urine, or if your skin or the whites of your eyes turn yellow. These may be signs of serious liver problems (hepatotoxicity), with liver enlargement (hepatomegaly), and fat in the liver.
If you have HIV-1 and hepatitis B virus (HBV) and stop taking TRUVADA, your liver disease may suddenly get worse. Your healthcare provider will monitor your condition for several months
If you have had kidney problems or take other medicines that can cause several problems of kidney, your healthcare provider should do regular blood tests to check your kidneys.
FDA Awareness:
FDA approved this drug as an anti HIV pills. But FDA scientists said there was no indication from clinical trials that Truvada users were more likely to engage in risky sexual behavior. So please use precaution like condoms then prevent the viral growth

Why HIV is not resisted by the human body

Friday, 13 July 2012 - 1 Comment

Researchers, have made a discovery which is described the reason of fighting unabelity off HIV on human body. The researchers discovered that the viral protein vpu, which is created by HIV during infection, directly relates with the immune response protein IRF3 to dampen the ability of the immune system to protect against HIV.
"By understanding exactly what HIV does to hamper the innate immune response during early infection, we can develop a clearer picture of how the virus is able to evade immunity to establish a long-term infection," said Dr. Brian Doehle.
According to the earlier research result we are notified that the virus bind with the IRF3 cells and suppress our immunity system.
The new studies found that the HIV protein vpu specifically binds to the immune protein IRF3 and targets it for destruction. So the prevention of IRF3 from HIV virus destruction is the best way to blocked HIV spreding. The scientists also found that HIV strains engineered to lack vpu, which is made during infection, did not impair the immune response.
"We have effectively identified a new Achilles heel in the arsenal that HIV uses to overcome the defenses present in the body's immune system", stated Dr. Gale.As per the information the best proses is designing a new HIV antiviral therapeutics that prevent vpu from interacting with IRF3 and targeting it for destruction. Even though HIV antiviral therapeutics have already been developed and can effectively treat HIV infections.
UW Medical Scientist Training Program has developed a procedure to measure IRF3 activity in human blood cells. This new methodology will be used to measure IRF3 function over the pathogenic condition of HIV infection  from the early stages of acute infection to the later stages of chronic infection that lead to AIDS.
so we are hoped that now  the mortal HIV will be in control of human hand.
